Chavez let me brush out his mane, tail and forelock today after he, grudgingly, allowed the de-wormer paste to be squirted in his mouth. It's kind of special that he lets me groom him. He still quivers and looks like he might bolt if I am too ...um...personal with him. His private areas are his private areas and he doesn't like being messed with there. For instance, when I reached for his tail to start combing, he sucked it in and tucked his butt under. When I got too close to his ears while combing his mane, he flicked his head away and held it way up high. He's just not sure about things that he has decided are off limits.

Eventually, I got him all combed out, cleaned out his feet, which he is VERY good about and let him go back to his buddies. He looked so phenomenal all combed out. He really is beautiful.

Photo from yesterday, before the comb out.

Where to begin...?

I'll fill in older photos of Chavez as I have time to tell his story. Right now, I just want to get to blogging about him.

Chavez is a 4 year old Kiger Mustang. We bought/rescued him as a yearling colt (that story later) and had him gelded as a nearly 2-year-old.

He is in training with local trainer Kali (Kay-lee) and is doing great. She has ridden him bareback and he is learning so many things. He'll be a trick pony pretty soon.

He had a lesson today and the flies were horrible. He was the only one who wouldn't let me put a mask on him or get some bug repellant on. So, the flies were thick.

Here are some photos. Others to follow.

"How you doin'?"

He LOVED these horse treats.

"What is that?"
